These are just three of the reasons why many foreigners want to move to Denmark.

Living in Denmark

Denmark officially the Kingdom of Denmark is a sovereign state in Northern Europe, located south-west of Sweden, south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany. Denmark is frequently ranked as the happiest country in the world in cross-national studies of happiness. Denmark ranks as having the world’s highest social mobility, a high level of income equality, and has one of the world’s highest per capita income. Much of Denmark is highly urbanised, such as Copenhagen, the capital city. The Danish landscape is characterised by flat, arable land and sandy coasts. Because of Denmark’s northern location, there are large seasonal variations in daylight. There are short days during the winter with sunrise coming around 8:45 am and sunset 3:45 pm (standard time), as well as long summer days with sunrise at 4:30 am and sunset at 10 pm.

The Danish education system provides access to primary school, secondary school and higher education. All college and university education in Denmark is free of charges; there are no tuition fees to enroll in courses.

Along with Sweden and Norway, Denmark has a universal health care system, financed by taxes and not by social contributions. This system is largely financed through local, municipal taxation with integrated funding and provision of health care at the regional level. link for more info.

Denmark has also one of the world’s best state pension schemes According to the Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index written recently in an article in the UK’s Telegraph newspaper

Working in Denmark

Citizens of the EU/EEA countries, Switzerland or the Nordic countries can reside in Denmark according to special regulations.

EU/EEA citizens and Swiss citizens can reside in Denmark under the EU regulations on free movement.

If you are travelling visa-free, you may stay in the Schengen region for a maximum of 90 days every six months. The 90 days can be used either for one long stay or several shorter stays. Nationals of a number of other countries including the USA, Canada, Australia and a number of other countries are allowed to enter without a visa and stay in the Schengen Area for up to three months, but are prohibited from taking paid employment in Denmark during this time. The immediate family members of EU/EEA nationals are allowed to live with them in Denmark regardless of their nationality.

If you reside in Denmark under EU rules, you will need to meet other requirements for permanent residence. If you are covered by the EU’s free movement of persons rule (either as an EU citizen or as a family member of an EU citizen), and you have a right to stay in Denmark, you can qualify for permanent residence under the EU’s requirements after residing in Denmark for five years.
