AVAILABLE SERVICES TO IRELAND
Ireland / Europe Shared Load
A part/shared load service is a cost effective way to move your goods to and from your destination. The reason this service is so cost effective is that you share the vehicle with other consignments and therefore the vehicle costs are also shared. All consignments are individually prepared, numbered, labelled and inventoried to ensure all items are correctly delivered to you. The main advantage of a part loads to Europe service is that you will receive the Matthew James service of excellence at the most cost effective price.
Ireland / Europe Premium Service
A direct service combines Matthew James’ service of excellence with the added advantage of a dedicated collection date and express delivery timescale. Handling of your effects is minimised as they remain on the same vehicle throughout. Although your delivery will be carried out in conjunction with other clients’ consignments, this means you will share the cost of the vehicle and your consignment will be prioritised for onward delivery typically within 7-10 days of collection.
Ireland Dedicated Service
A dedicated service gives you the flexibility to choose your collection and delivery dates. This service means you will have exclusive use of one of our bespoke removal vehicles. This service guarantees the Matthew James service of excellence and peace of mind that your moving dates can be fixed, allowing you the convenience to make travel arrangements and plan your arrival. All delivery dates are subject to EU laws on driving time. We can confirm the timing prior to any booking.

Living in Ireland
Ireland is an island to the north-west of continental Europe. To its east is the larger island of Great Britain, from which it is separated by the Irish Sea. Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland , which covers just under five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland , a part of the United Kingdom, which covers the remainder and is located in the north-east of the island. The culture of the island has also many features shared with Great Britain, as expressed through sports such as association football, rugby, horse racing, and golf, as well as the English language.
There are three World Heritage Sites on the island: the Brú na Boinne, Skellig Michael and the Giant’s Causeway. Some of the most visited sites in Ireland include Bunratty Castle, the Rock of Cashel, the Cliffs of Moher, Holy Cross Abbey and Blarney Castle.
Working in Ireland
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens: If you are from an EU member state or one of the countries of the EEA or Switzerland, you are entitled to come to work in Ireland. You do not need an employment permit. You are entitled to have your dependants come to live with you. If you are a spouse or civil partner of an EEA/Swiss national who is exercising the right of free movement, then you have similar rights to work and live in Ireland.
If you are an EEA or Swiss national, you are entitled to be treated in the same way as Irish citizens when you apply for work in Ireland. You are free to apply for any job vacancy, including jobs in the public sector. These include jobs in the Irish army and the Irish police force, but not the Irish diplomatic service.
There is a system of mutual recognition of qualifications between the EEA countries.
Other countries: If you are from another country then generally you need an employment permit – see exceptions below. There are four different types of employment permit: Green Card permit, work permit, intra-company transfer permit, spousal/dependant work permit – see below.
Students – If you are from a country whose nationals normally require an employment permit and you are studying in Ireland on an approved course, you may take up casual work – a maximum of 20 hours a week in term time and full time during the holidays – without an employment permit.
What tax will you pay? You will become resident for tax purposes if you spend more than 183 days in the country in any given tax year. If you spend 280 days or more in Ireland over two consecutive years you will be regarded as resident for the second tax year. So if, say, you spend 140 days in Ireland in the first year, and 150 days in the second year, you will be resident for year two only. You can find out more information here.
In 2012, single people with no dependent children pay 20% standard rate tax on the first €32,800 (£26,240) of taxable income. This threshold rises to €36,800 (£29,440) for single-parent families and €41,800 (£33,440) for married couples with one earner (or a maximum €65,600 – £52,480 – for two earners). Any further income is taxed at the higher rate of 41%. Thereafter it gets complicated, but you can find out more here.
VAT has just been raised to a hefty 23%. Ireland also boasts one of the world’s lowest rates of corporation tax at 12.5%. Sensibly, the Irish tax year runs along the calendar year.
