Comparing Our San Sebastián Moving Quotes

Discover-smart-inventory-system

When obtaining quotes to move abroad we would highly recommend checking your quote includes export wrapping, Advanced Inventory Management Systems and your insurance.

Unfortunately we hear many stories from clients who used less reputable companies, their belongings coming weeks later or being lost/damaged in transit, then to be advised they were not insured!

We strongly recommend choosing an experienced, established removals company like ourselves.

Our company has been accredited to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. We are members of IAM (International Association of Movers), the world’s largest trade association for the global moving industry.

Guide to Living in San Sebastián

San Sebastián (Donostia) is one of Spain’s most desirable coastal cities, known for its stunning beaches, world-class food scene, and relaxed lifestyle. Located in the Basque Country near the French border, it offers a unique blend of Spanish culture, natural beauty, and international appeal.

Removals San Sebastián have become increasingly popular, particularly among UK expats looking for a high-quality lifestyle with easy access to both mountains and sea.

Popular Areas for UK Expats in San Sebastián

  • Parte Vieja (Old Town) – Historic centre with vibrant culture, tapas bars, and traditional Basque charm
  • Centro – Elegant city centre living close to shops, restaurants, and La Concha beach
  • Gros – Popular with younger expats, surfers, and professionals
  • Antiguo – Residential area near Ondarreta beach, ideal for families
  • Amara – Modern, well-connected area with excellent local amenities
  • Igueldo & surrounding hills – Stunning views and quieter living just outside the city

Cost of Living

San Sebastián is one of the more premium locations in northern Spain. Property prices and rent are higher than nearby cities such as Bilbao or Santander, but many expats feel the lifestyle more than justifies the cost.

Dining out is a major part of life here, with the city famous for its pintxos (Basque tapas). While slightly more expensive than other regions, the quality is exceptional.

Healthcare & Education

San Sebastián offers excellent healthcare facilities, both public and private. Expats can access public healthcare through residency or the S1 scheme.

The city also provides strong education options, including bilingual schools and international education nearby, making it a good choice for families relocating from the UK.

Transport and Access

San Sebastián is well connected despite its coastal location:

  • Local buses and regional transport links
  • Easy access to Bilbao Airport and Biarritz Airport (France)
  • Train connections across northern Spain
  • Quick access to France and the wider EU road network

Lifestyle & Culture

San Sebastián is internationally recognised for:

  • La Concha beach (one of Europe’s best urban beaches)
  • Michelin-starred restaurants and food culture
  • Film festivals and cultural events
  • Safe, clean, and walkable city living

It offers a slower pace of life compared to major cities, making it particularly attractive for UK expats seeking balance.

Working in San Sebastián

San Sebastián has a smaller but growing economy focused on:

  • Tourism and hospitality
  • Technology and innovation
  • Education and research
  • Gastronomy and food industries

While it’s not as large as Bilbao economically, it offers opportunities for remote workers, entrepreneurs, and those seeking lifestyle-driven relocation.
