Comparing Our Tenerife Moving Quotes

Discover-smart-inventory-system

When obtaining quotes to move abroad we would highly recommend checking your quote includes export wrapping, Advanced Inventory Management Systems and your insurance.

Unfortunately we hear many stories from clients who used less reputable companies, their belongings coming weeks later or being lost/damaged in transit, then to be advised they were not insured!

We would recommend only using an experienced established company like ourselves.

Our company has been accredited to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. We are members of IAM (International Association of Movers), the world’s largest trade association for the global moving industry.

Guide to Emigrating to Tenerife

Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, is a captivating destination for UK expats, known for its eternal spring climate, diverse landscapes, and welcoming atmosphere. From the stunning beaches to the dramatic Mount Teide, Tenerife offers a blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural richness.

Here’s an in-depth area guide for UK expats considering Tenerife as their new home.

Introduction to Tenerife

  • Location: Tenerife is situated off the northwest coast of Africa, offering a unique combination of beautiful beaches, lush forests, and volcanic landscapes.
  • Climate: The island enjoys a subtropical climate, with mild temperatures year-round, making it known as the “Island of Eternal Spring.”

Finding Your Ideal Home

  • South Tenerife:
    • Costa Adeje: Known for its upscale hotels, beautiful beaches like Playa del Duque, and shopping centers such as Plaza del Duque. Ideal for those seeking a luxurious lifestyle.
    • Los Cristianos: Offers a mix of tourist attractions and residential areas, with a bustling port, sandy beaches, and a variety of dining options.
    • Playa de las Américas: A vibrant area famous for its nightlife, beaches, and entertainment. It has a lively expat community and numerous amenities.
  • North Tenerife:
    • Puerto de la Cruz: A traditional town with a charming old center, botanical gardens, and sea pools like Lago Martiánez. It’s popular among expats who prefer a more laid-back lifestyle.
    • La Orotava: Offers historic architecture, stunning valley views, and a cooler climate. Ideal for those seeking a more authentic Canarian lifestyle.
    • Santa Cruz de Tenerife: The island’s capital city, combining urban living with access to beaches, parks such as Parque García Sanabria, and cultural sites like the Auditorio de Tenerife.

Navigating the Basics

  • Healthcare: Tenerife offers both public healthcare via the Spanish National Health System and private healthcare options. Clinica Vida in La Laguna and Hospiten Sur in Playa de las Américas are notable facilities.
  • Banking: Major banks like Banco Santander and CaixaBank have branches across Tenerife. Expats will need an NIE (Foreigner Identification Number) to open an account.

Language and Integration

  • Language: While Spanish is the official language, English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Language schools such as FU International Academy Tenerife offer Spanish courses to help expats integrate.
  • Expat Community: There’s a significant British expat presence. Social groups and forums like “Expats in Tenerife” on Facebook provide support and organize meet-ups.

Leisure and Recreation

  • Beaches: Tenerife’s coastlines offer everything from black volcanic sands at Playa Jardín to golden beaches like Las Teresitas.
  • Outdoor Activities: Hiking in the Teide National Park, exploring the Masca Valley, or enjoying water sports in El Médano are just a few options.
  • Golf: With courses like Golf Costa Adeje and Golf del Sur, Tenerife is a golfer’s paradise.
  • Cultural Sites: The historic town of La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Pyramids of Güímar offer insights into the island’s rich history.

Practical Tips for Moving

  • Property Market: The south tends to be pricier but offers more modern amenities. Northern parts of the island offer better value and more traditional Canarian properties.
  • Legal Matters: Utilise reputable real estate agents and legal advisors familiar with Spanish property law to navigate the buying or renting process.
  • Residency: Post-Brexit, UK citizens planning to stay longer than 90 days need to follow Spanish visa and residency permit procedures, requiring proof of income and health insurance.
