Customs and tax requirements: The Canary Islands are within the EU customs territory but outside the EU VAT territory, so movements to the islands can require introduction declarations and Canary Islands tax formalities even when the goods come from mainland Spain or another EU country.

Moves from mainland Spain or another EU member state
Used household belongings already in free circulation within the EU will not normally be subject to customs duty, but an introduction declaration and checks connected with the Canary Islands Economic and Fiscal Regime may still be required. IGIC or other local charges may apply unless a relevant relief or exemption is available.
Moves from the UK or another non-EU country
Moves from outside the EU customs territory may require export and import declarations, a detailed inventory, identification and documents supporting the change of residence. Qualifying used personal belongings may benefit from Transfer of Residence relief, subject to the relevant conditions and approval by the authorities.
Vehicles, new goods and restricted items
Vehicles, new goods, plants, alcohol, tobacco, commercial goods and controlled or restricted items can be subject to separate declarations, taxes, permits or documentary requirements. Vehicles introduced permanently into the Canary Islands are handled separately from the household removal and may require a VEXCAN declaration and IGIC assessment.
